My mom grew up in Mississippi and didn’t move north until she was in her 30’s. She dealt with winter just fine…until late February. I remember her staring out the kitchen window at the gray (or still white) landscape and grumbling, “it’s supposed to be spring! At home, there are flowers!”
March would arrive, and with it, daffodils in the grocery store. Soon there’d be a bunch on our kitchen table. An extravagant splurge by standards of the day. At least in our household.
A mental health treat, I understand now.
Even though I’ve lived all but 2 of my 47 years in the Northeast, I continue this tradition.
Treat yourself to some beauty today.
