I love teaching people about our bodies – the mechanics of how our muscles work together, how to read the signals our bodies send and how to use movement, breath and relaxation to bring our bodies back to balance. Integrated Positional Therapy (IPT) is one tool for this, as are yoga and mindfulness. Reiki is another tool I can not only offer, but am pleased to be able to teach you Reiki for your self-care and to help care for others.
About Reiki
Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a Japanese healing art used to balance the flow of universal life (Rei) energy (Ki) through the body. Reiki promotes the body’s natural relaxation response, releasing blocked energy and restoring balance. While receiving Reiki, you relax fully clothed on body work table or in a chair. Reiki practitioners use gentle, noninvasive touch to calm your nervous system.
Our bodies are moving energy
Our nervous system uses electric signals to communicate. Tight muscles, injury, illness, and stress can interrupt these lines of communication. Reiki gently gets the energy flowing again. Reiki has been clinically shown to promote the relaxation response in our nervous systems, reducing stress and promoting health. Reiki is becoming commonly used in hospitals and nursing homes as a complementary treatment to traditional medicine.
“Your hands are warm”
What does Reiki feel like? Some people feel warmth from my hands, beyond typical body heat. Others feel tingling sensations. Some feel nothing physical, merely a sense of calm. Reiki can induce the alpha brain wave state – the sense of wakeful rest.
Home Remedy
The best thing about Reiki? You can learn to do it yourself! Almost 100 years ago, Reiki’s founder, Dr. Usui, envisioned and taught Reiki as a home remedy. I can teach you to tune into the subtle energy channels in your body to release pain and tension and promote healing.
